Manchester named 28th most “liveable” city in the world

Manchester has rocketed up the league table of the best cities in the world to live, according to the latest annual report by The Economist.

Beating the likes of London and Barcelona, Manchester was one of the biggest risers in the Global Liveability index report, which is published each year by The Economist Intelligence Unit.

The study is proof – if it were needed – that Manchester continues to be an excellent place to be a landlord. With tenant demand at record levels, we currently have a long waiting list of tenants waiting to move into the city

Manchester rose an impressive 26 places to reach the 28th spot out of a total of 172 world cities in the survey. The city saw a drop in the last couple of years due to the effects of Covid restricts and the subsequent impacts – but Manchester is now above its pre-pandemic level.

The survey looked at the city’s stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education as well as its infrastructure. Based on these criteria, Manchester was placed above London (which is 33rd) – as well as LA (37th), Auckland (34th), Madrid (43rd), Barcelona (35th), Adelaide (30th) and Perth (32)

Manchester City Council Leader, Bev Craig, welcomed the news that the city has performed so well in the survey:

“I’m proud that Manchester is the highest ranked UK city. It’s great to see this respected survey recognise we already know – that Manchester is a great place to be: A vibrant, creative, energetic and ambitious city that puts residents at its heart.

“But Manchester’s ambition doesn’t stop there. We are determined to become a top-flight world city and this analysis suggests we are making strong progress.

“This is a brilliant city to live in, work in or visit but our goal is to make it even better – an exciting and innovative place where everyone can thrive and share in that success. We are proudly taking our place on a world stage and will strive to improve further."

The news comes as Manchester was also crowned the best UK city for retail and leisure in 2022!

Collier’s inaugural “LocateVenues” retail ranking report monitored the retail and leisure offering at commercial venues across the country – and found that Manchester has the largest ranges of these offerings in one shoppable location across the UK.

There’s no doubt that Manchester continues to be one of the best places in the world to be a landlord, and it looks set to be so for a long time to come.
